VW Trivia: March's Questions & Answers: 1. During what model years was the VW Rabbit pickup made? A. The VW Rabbit Pickkup truck was made from 1980 through 1984. It was built in the U.S. 2. What was the vehicle called that inpsired Dutchman Ben Pon to draw up a design suggestion that led to the creation of the Type 2 in 1948? A. A factory parts transporter called "Plattenwagen" (platform vehicle). This was a serie of little trucks that had a tubular frame and the driver sate behind the load facing it. 3. In what year did the VW rear brake light go from being combined with the license light to being in the taillights? A. The VW Beetle lost its "pop's nose" center brake/license unit in favor of a separate license light with the brake lights combinced with the tail lights in OCT '52. 4. Can you tell the exact date on which the Beetle's rear window went from being split to oval? A. The Beetle rear window lost its divider on March 10, 1953. This wasn't just to increase the visibililty; it was also because by the late 1940s the ability to manufacture curved glass had been perfected. As part of the change, VW also made a conversion kit available for older VW's , something restorers don't want to have happened to their car. 5. In what model year did the Karman Ghia gain the same kind of heavy bumper that was first seen on the 1968 Beetle? A. 1972 6.
